BPCL Partners with Volks Energie for Solar Initiative
Volks Energie has partnered with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to implement India’s first solar energy project utilizing Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The initiative involves deploying a combined solar capacity of 280 kW, supported by 1.6 MWh of LFP battery storage, across 14 strategic locations in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Piyush Goyal, CEO of Volks Energie, emphasized the importance of this project, stating, “Oil and gas pipelines need to operate safely. Cathodic protection is used to prevent corrosion of pipelines. Further, SCADA system is deployed for gas pipeline monitoring. These two critical loads over the pipeline need to work to ensure energy supply even in the event of extreme conditions like calamities and national security issues.” He further noted that the deployment of LFP batteries is a significant technical advancement, as they offer higher energy density compared to the previously used Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries. Volks Energie has committed to deploying batteries with world-class safety systems, including an automatic fire suppression system, to ensure no damage occurs to the sensitive equipment at the stations.
